Big data analysis and management of groundwater quality in Taiwan

Absrtact
The integrative planning and the institution of groundwater quality and monitoring wells management are conducted in this project. Main tasks include a review on groundwater background quality investigation method and the establishment of monitoring network, the implementation of groundwater quality index, big data analysis of groundwater quality and promotion of groundwater management and communication. The distribution of groundwater monitoring network is optimized and an adjusted plan on monitoring items and frequency is proposed. Furthermore, the sampling effects of filtration on heavy metals concentration is evaluated. Assistance on the monitoring well installing report for each county is carried out, as well as the planning and renewing of the specification of well locks. Besides, a three-dimensional joint management plan of groundwater monitoring wells between EPA and Water Resources Agency is developed. A weightage calculation on groundwater quality classification is implemented to act as a background water quality reference, with a visualization method to perform the trend of water quality changes intuitively. Moreover, factors of groundwater contamination is evaluated with machine learning and factor analysis to enhance water quality protection policy. Also, expert consultation meetings, political seminars and international conferences are held to support government’s future work.
